    Default Facelift Gearbox

Is the facelift gearbox any better than pre-fracelift, I found the old one very slow and clunky and thought if it was abused would not last long? I have only seen pictures and the noticed the gear knob is different so it makes me wonder, also does the facelift SRI still get rear air vents from the centre arm rest?

In short the sri one isn't it's worse. My 2.2dti was very smooth compared to this one. They moved to cables for the 6 speed one. Mine is very notchy through mainly first to third. Only disapointment for me on the drive of the facelift Sri.

The only cars to get rear air vents on the facelifts are cars fitted with semi-auto or full auto climate. Everything else with standard air-con has no centre rear vents.

IMO, this is no great loss as the standard air-con doesn't seem to have enough power to blow any useful air through those vents anyway!

Yep - I agree with the comments above.

The gear change, IMO, really lets the car down (6 speed). I thought the Vectra B / Astra G had a much better box.

The gear stick is to long too! My old Astra had a nice small one, with a reassuring gear change - but the Vectra is like driving a tank!

It hurts me to say it, but Ford and VW seem to have it right.

Totally agree, I think Vauxhall have really struggled with gear changes for a while. Something for them to work on with the new model! Ford are way ahead on the gear change.

OTOH, I drove a Renault Megane recently with a 6 speed box, it was awful. Neutral was off centre, 1,3,5 were miles away and it was all too easy to select the wrong gear. The gear stick seemed way too long too.

I know the Vauxhall cable shift 6 speed ain't perfect, but it ain't that bad IMHO.

Shame, was hoping to hear it was like the six speed in my brother's 2005 Astra CDTi [150], so the gearbox is the same as what was in my 2004 Vectra SRI CDTi [150]? Just a new gear knob is it?
