you'll be getting the strimmer out to cut the grass, because there is no way you'll be able to cut it with a lawn mower with that obstruction in the way.

Well the exhaust replacement went quite well - the new system was a Eurocarparts cheapie, made by Klarus. I've read a lot of negative reviews of Klarus, mainly centred on them not fitting well, so was pleasantly surprised to find this system fitted perfectly. Also the horribly rusted fitting on the cat didn't break the bolts and came apart well, so that was a relief.

The one area where Klarus skimp is in the internal baffling - thier systems can often sound noisier, and true to form, the back box when tapped sounded like an empty box. With the system fitted, it does sound a little "hollow," hopefully that will lesson with time. There is a thin, slightly amusing sounding "ehhhhhhhh" from the rear box at times, but overall I'm happy enough, especially for the price of the whole system.

Unfortunately I'm still getting problems with oxygen sensor readings, affecting the economy. From the code, I think it's the pre-cat one, so I've bought a second hand one on eBay...

The other job talked was the front brakes- they were grinding like mad, so imagine my surprise when I saw the pads were almost like new. Except for one area - they were badly glazed and cracked, symptoms I think of overheating, so we concluded the callipers were sticking. These were cleaned and greased, and refitted with new pads. I was expecting the disks to be ruined, but apart from some scoring, they were as thick as new. So I'm assuming that the car stood for ages before I got it, and the old pads had to wear off the accumulated rust, ruining them in the process. Braking does now seem better and more confident, but still with a surprising amount of rumble and grind - I wonder if new discs would cure it? No matter, I can't afford them just now...

they should wear down to either the groves in the disks or the disks will wear down to the surface of the pads... but when I buy a car and it sounds like that and i find glazed pads that are thick enough... i just use a grinder and sand the pads down a bit.. same amount on both sides than fit them back... while i save up for a complete disk and pad change all round... also they aren't that expensive if you get like for like from Vauxhall so usually within a month the lot will be complete swapped out for new.. i did that when i bought mine and they are still going strong... costed about 100 pounds for 2 rear disks and pads and 2 front disks and pads and they are genuine
