confused What Is "mopping" & How Is It Done?

Hi all. My car went into vauxhalls for an M.O.T & it came out with the whole f***** car covered in some sort of black overspray/tar spots/traffic film?!! The whole car including windows is covered in tiny black spots. i have tried tar spot remover & t-cut but it still wernt shifting. Vauxhalls said that they wernt liable & blamed some builders working on a new site across the road BUT as they felt sorry for me they would send my car to their bodyshop to get it "MOPPED?". This process would take 4-5hrs, What a nightmare i'm having

Does anyone know what "mopping" means & how they do it?.

Mopping is basically a term for taking a rotary polisher over the car to remove any stuff like that, swirls etc.

Cool! Thanks. Without sounding thick, would they use this method on the windows? If not, what would be safe to get a paint like substance off the glass wihout causing damage?

Yeah, they could possibly use the same method on the windows using the right pads and polish - should work nicely.

I had a similar thing done to mine (the mopping that is), they used some form of compound on the paintwork and windows.. got rid of all my swirls and the car looked fantastic afterwards... they're back now though as i'm a little rough when it comes to cleaning the car and pearlescent paint isn't very forgiving.

Yep mopping is exactly what Duncan says..........going over the car with a rotary polisher............and that means this.............they will have the speed to high and move accross your paintwork too fast..........and the result, almost certainly the car will be covered in holograms and buffer trails not to mention swirls but they will be the least of your problems

I think this will happen as we have now done 6 cars that have been to 6 dif bodyshops and here is a link showing what I mean.......this car had been machined twice by dif bodyshops the second trying to put rite the errors of the first

    Here you go: -

Enfield......is that close to Leeds?.......if yes and yo still have a problem after the "mopping" then I'll give you the details of a guy who can detail your car and put it rite to the extent it will be as good as new if not better guaranteed

I wouldn`t let a "bodyshop" mop my car, no chance, I have also seen cars which have been mopped, full of marks, the car was in their care so they are responsible for it, make sure you get it sorted properly ...

I agree with Bainie, they are responsible, get on to Vauxhall if you can't get any
satisfaction, another dealer that needs there a*** kicking, what's going on out there?
