    Default One for Duncan :D

I was wondering how much you think this would cost to have repaired....(Pics are ****.. light kept reflecting off it but you can just about see that the glass is smashed)

and whether it is worth it as i can use the larger display!

It's a FujiFilm FinePix S5500.. you rate them? i picked it up for £60 about 11 months ago.

Exactly which bit is broken?, is it just the 'outside' bit of glass? It should be repairable, but given what you paid for it, it may not be economical. Fuji should be able to give you an idea of cost over the phone - they probably have a minimum charge - or they may be able to sell you the part and it's something that you can DIY.

Yeah, it's just that outer piece but havnig taken the rubber off, it seems to be one whole unit so i don't know how i'd go about replacing it. Like i say, i can just use the LCD screen.. the damaged bit is Electronic anyway.. i guess it uses less power?

I was just curious as it's not exactly a bad camera for the price i paid... then again, i know nothing about camera's... (apart from what megapixels are.. now if it was a computer.. i'd know what to do with it! lol) ... but if it wasn't a huge cost, it would be worth having done as it looks nasty with the crack.

I must start using it actually.. i've been using my phone but as you can see from the pics above... it's useless!!!!

Yep, it will do as it's a smaller display. The Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) comes in handy when you want to be shooting with the camera up to your eye - instead of holding it out in front of you - and also when it's very bright/sunny as you won't get glare on it like you do on the large display. And as you said the EVF will use less power so will be kinder on your batteries.

All I can suggest is ring the Fujifilm service section - 0870 084 1314 - and see if they can give you a price for repairing and, if they can, just a part price.

Writeoff, it will cost double the £60 to get it repaired by the time they are finished with it, labour rate kills anything like that, I had the same thing with a VCR yrs ago, cost £200, needed a new clutch, £80 to repair £120 for a new VCR, after 3 yrs of ownership guess which way I went, if it still shoots a picture I'd either remove the glass and not have it or just live with it, I assume it's the view finder glass?

I'll probably just live with it.. i've put a piece of tape across it so no bits of glass get me in the eye so if i do want to use it, i can (when you hold it to your eye, you can't see the crack).. i usually use the LCD display rather than the EVF anyhoo.. just thought i'd ask if it would be worth fixing.

    thanks all.

By the way, hows the world president campaing going, vv? lol
