    Default Speed Cameras

One of the lads i worked with up to a couple of months ago has just been caught by a Scamera van (again) He did not see any speed limit signs as he was half asleep as it was 7am. He has been back to check and found there is only 1 sign on the right side of the road not 1 either side.
I have always been told there has to be a sign on either side when there is a change of limit but only 1 within that limit as a reminder.
Could the bods that know please clarify

    Also, just found this http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/a...nes/article.do
It says that SPECS cameras cannot be used to prosecute if you have changed lanes as the speed has to be calculated whilst driving in the same lane. Again, how true is this.

yep I agree ... have a look at www.pepipoo.com ... I joined years ago when I got my ticket and there is (or certainly was) a really helpful mix of people on there. With regard to the limit sign ... I believe it is correct there must be a sign on each side of the road unless it was a 30 in which case as long as lamp posts are not more than 200yds apart it doesn't need a sign.

Yeah, but if you can avoid the 3 points and fine due to a technicality - why not?

When the stretch of road has been National speed limit for years, is a dual carriageway, not a built up area then suddenly changes it is a bit of a downer for anyone to get caught there. Another way of extracting cash from the poor motorist.

Scamera van, assume you mean a talivan?
This is not a SPECS vehicle, but used LT10/20

In the interim period, the driver should confirm their details
In a separate letter, keeping a copy for themselves, request a fully copy from the constabulary concerned of the date, time, location, and equipment type used

In a further letter, to the local authority
Details of maintenance on the road, between two locations on that road, for the previous 18 months
Take a photograph of the terminator speed limit signs, as you can use this as evidence
However, remember the speed limit is 30mph, unless indicated by other road signs
I recently slowed to 30mph after entering a 50mph zone as there were no repeater signs at the required intervals, as the road was also lined with street lamps
I was getting overtaken by just about everything!

    As for SPECS
The Home Office type approval CLEARLY states, for this equipment to be used it must monitor one lane only
Such a vehicle should be monitored along that lane
If a vehicle is monitored between different lanes the readings cannot be used
In some cases where SPECS is used at roadworks this is not even possible as the lane layouts change, or one of the SPECS cameras is positioned on a different road!

Sooo... In theory, in a SPECS controlled bit of motorway, you can do 100mph in lane 1 past camera 1, then 100mph in lane 2 past camera 2 then finnaly 100mph in lane 3 for camera 3??? And not get prosecuted for it!!!!

    Madness....
