    Default PDA Mounting

I currently use the Brodit Proclip which covers my right centre vent to hold my PDA.

But with the hot weather the cold air from the vent is virtually restricted, does anybody have any other suggestion for mounting my PDA without blocking a vent or the centre screen. I have the power cord running into the dash down to under the stereo so a windscreen mount is a no no

    Cheers

You can get similar things but rather than clipping to the vents, they have a suction pad to stick to the windscreen.. i have the same problem...

    This kinda thing.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WINDSHIELD-CAR...QQcmdZViewItem

I take it that's permanently fixed? I don't like to leave any clues that there may be anything of value in the car.. i always take everything out but i still don't want the windows smashing!! lol

Well, it's semi-permanent as in I can remove it if I changed cars, but it stays there on a day to day basis. Obviously I remove the PDA when I leave the car and it goes with me.

Whilst I never park in any dodgy areas, I do wonder if some dozy scally would break a window just to see if I've left it in the car - although it's maybe obvious to anyone that it's a PDA mount and PDAs are usually with the person, not left in the car. They may even think it's a mobile phone mount - again phone always something taken away.

At the end of the day, if any git smashed a window they wouldn't get very far as they are all tinted so the film would severely slow them down - and I always, always deadlock the car so again more hassle for them. I'd 'only' have a window to get sorted out and retinted. So far, touch wood, nothing of the sort has happened (watch this, now you've mentioned it some git will have a go next week!! lol)

Don't come blaming me if they do! lol.

It's common sense that the owner will take their PDA\Mobile with them.. but you know what people are like these days.. they'll try and take anything... we had a group of lads at our work last Sunday in the skip seeing what they could find... they saw me come out of the door to go for a fag and legged it to the car and drove off. ( I work in I.T. for an Engineering place so theres plenty of scrap metal in the skips).

The car park is fully fenced off with 10ft gates, the gate we open on Sunday's can't be seen until you're side by side with it, and you can't see the skip from the outside so god knows how they knew it was there. anyway, going off track a little here.....

where did you get the mount from?

That looks ideal, I can still use the centre part of the console and can have my vent back

Where did you get it from Duncan, I assume I can just screw my current PDA holder to the mount]

    Cheers

I got it from my local ICE shop. It's made by a company called Dashmount - well known and widely available make.

Yep, there's a number of holes slots that should line up with your PDA mount - and I just used a small nut and bolt to attach it onto the plate.

Hmmm, rather than buying one.. i wonder if the guys on the workshop could make one for me.. if they can make robotic arms, i'm sure they could make me a simple pda mount!!

Yep, if you've got access to sheet metal working etc. then they could definitely knock one up for you I'd expect. One mine I remember it has a little 'barb' (if you follow) so that once you've pushed it in, it's not possible for it to slide out over time - but if you want to remove it you just need to prise the trim slightly to get it out. IIRC it also had a bit of a double sided tape stuff on the horizontal bit so that it stuck a bit and didn't slide/twist left and right.
