There are loads of threads on here regarding blanking the EGR. Have a look in the right section or use the search function.

Does this put the EML on on the Z19DTH, as I thought the air flow was monitored, this is my first diesel, so if I'm wrong please let me know

Having fitted blanking /restricter plates to our 3 z19dth vectras what i can tell you is you use 2 plates. The one between the inlet manifold and the egr valve has one 9.5 mm hole drilled in the centre of the plate, the one between the egr valve and the inlet pipe from the exhaust has 4 holes drilled in it these are 7mm in diameter i have tried 5mm holes BUT this puts the eml on. The plates drilled or undrilled can be bought on ebay.Forgot to say i just used some gasket sealant instead of the original gaskets and everything is ok.

He wants to fit a blank, if it’s got a hole then it’s not blanked is it.

Looking through the forum should I’d hope show the best way is 3 plates 1 being on the exhaust manifold which helps stop the cooler from being damaged

The reason why some of the egr "blanking" plates are used is that the ecu has detection algorithm that determines the volume of air consumed and relates that to the maf for air volume metered at the intake. The difference is the air induced into the engine via the egr valve. There is a tolerance built into this but once exceeded various p04xx errors are then flagged if the flow is reduced or there's a wiring / mechanical fault with the egr.

By fitting a gasket with a 10mm hole, the volume of air from the egr is minimised but still within the measured tolerance of flow detection. This results in 'better running' due to the reduction of the egr inert co2 air whose primary function is to reduce the combustion temperature minimising the production of NOx (as well as less HC soot being recirculated through the inlet steam). However, more oxygen is better 'running' etc.

Fitting a full blank requires the ecu modification to disable the monitor function, as in 'mapped out'.

A restriction gasket to 10mm could have been an official 'dealer modification' without the removal of an emission control device in the ecu.

My old Astra G with the 1.7cdti 80hp engine worked great with a restriction gasket with an 8mm hole in it without any software modifications.

My v6 cdti doesn't even work with a egr gasket with a restricted hole, so it's not guaranteed to work on all vehicles.
