I was wondering about this a few weeks ago when I got a new Walkman phone. I googled it and came across this comparison test.

If you've bags of memory to spare on the iPod go for the highest bitrate supported '320 Kbps'. I've ordered an iDA-X001 & a 30 GB iPod Video

I'd say ACC was better.. unfortunately my stereo only does mp3 and wma and i hate Ipods.. they're so overpriced for what they do.. i got myself an mp3 player for £4 and stuck a 2gig memory card in it for £7. Does the job and only cost £11

from what i can gather acc is better but what rate do i rip them at, is 320kbps acc going to take up more room than 192kbps mp3? im only using 11 gigs out of 30! but i would like cd quality but without huge file sizes

Try ripping a song in different formats and have a listen to them, then make a decision based on file size and quailty.

Maybe I have cloth ears but I had an expensive setup in my last car & I couldn't really tell much difference between a decent MP3 & a CD & as I could fit 200 MP3s on a CD that's what I stuck to.

well currently my songs are in 192 mp3, so i thought i would rip dire straits "so far away" in 192 aac. i chose this song as it has good instruments and clears sounds. now unless i am going deaf i cannot tell any difference between the two and the file size was the same! so is it worth re-ripping all my cd`s again in AAC? on listening again though the AAc seems more brighter and punchier
