    Default Dam potholes and snowflakes

Well I hit a pot hole the weekend resulting in this

Now the tyre is fine but the wheel doesnít hole pressure. Does this look repairable or is it a new set of wheels.

Iím tempted to get 2 steelies/structure wheels for now and run them on the front as itís unusable atm looking like this

    Whatís your thoughts guys

I'm sure a good reputable wheel restorer will be able to fix this

that will be heated up and forced back to it's shape.... probably set you back about 60 to 80 pounds depending on the state of the paint afterwards .

Personally knowing about the properties of alloy I would want a replacement. Alloy isn’t elastic, it was years ago I did materials but the grains don’t stretch or with heat contract back again unlike steels so yes it looks good when put back but inside the material has lost its strength. There is a proper technical term for it but I can’t remember it for you to google

Might be ok as a temp spare after the repair but I wouldn’t like it on my car or motorbike.

Easy example for anyone doubting me is get some alloy strip and bend it in a vise, you’ll see the outer radius fracture as the grain structure is pulled apart and if you try and bend it back straight it snaps.
Its something to do with its modulus of elasticity

Yours is a lot smaller dent so I would be as scared but it would do my head in until I found a replacement lol and get the council to pay for new parts as the alloy new is over £400

If you can take a picture of the pothole and damage to your wheel then get a link or a quote for how much a replacement wheel is then send it and the pics by registered post to the council and they should reimberse you the money, Thats what i did when i hit a pothole and damaged one of my inovit DTM's.
