    Default cdti temp gauge trouble

    150 cdti .
Genuine stat fitted approx 18 months ago ,since then no coolant trouble .
Last week after a 10 mile drive I noticed the temp gauge creeping up and cold heaters ,but when reaching 3/4 the needle drops to normal position and heat returns.
Today , a 5 mile trip ,10 mins engine off ,on trip home needle maxxed out and flashing coolant light .
I was thinking thermostat but opcom shows nothing .
Coolant slightly down ,topped up , let it idle for 10 mins with cap off and the needle sits at 90 ,after less than a mile driving needles up in the red and cold heaters .
    Head gasket or not ?

That should read idles at 95 .

Just been back out ,took a couple of mins and the temp was up to 95 on idle then rising as I kept the revs up .

Have you checked to see if the water is flowing back into the header tank? Maybe waterpump?

    maybe stat stuck shut?

Ran engine till needles at 90 ,no coolant coming back to tank and top rad hose is red hot ,suggesting the stat is open and working correctly .

Dug some paperwork from previous owner ,June 2015 87000 miles INA cambelt kit and Circoli wp fitted . Car now has 120650 miles.

I`m not impressed with Circoli stuff ,had wp leak on a Rover 45 and my dads old Vec XER had 2 stats fail very early .

If it is the wp theres genuine for £35 and just change pump or do I risk this cheaper kit and pump from Neo ,https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saab-9-3-...QAAOSwz-5ZfGs7

I’d be thinking the water pump has died and allways fit genuine with these either from dealer with the club membership card or GPS as a lot of Neo stuff isn’t genuine.
Youve been here since 07 so you’d have seen the agro people of had with none genuine parts on this engine myself included

If its the wp I think the cam belt will be changed along with blanking the swirl flaps .
However ,I can only find these part numbers on the inlet -

    46823849

    3.65704.02

Which manifold is this ,early or late ?

Well . it was indeed the water pump that had failed . I was very surprised to find it had seized ,I had thought the impeller was at fault .How the belt survived a couple of hundred miles of 3 mile trips I`ll never know , no burning smell or squealing .
Genuine GM pump fitted .Decided to replace the belt kit with the same brand that survived pump seizure , INA .

There's a guy, James from Leeds that will supply and fit a welded manifold for about £160.

I personally wouldn't trust the glue in plugs.
