Whilst we're on the subject of gear changes, I noted that the volume of oil you said you filled the F40 with is a little too much. You need to put in 2.2 litres, which when added to the 0.2 litres that stays in the casing, makes 2.4 litres in total, rather than putting in 2.5-2.6 litres which will make up to 2.8 litres in total. The more oil you have above 2.4 litres the rougher the gearchange will be.

Yes, correct, I've been thinking of draining some of the oil but since this feels more like a mechanical problem (getting into gear) and not only notchiness I'm not sure it would help. My other car got the same amount and doesn't behave like this. Both are of course still a bit notchy so I'll put this on my to-do list.

Will try, backed off the last time since the cable locks looked like someone used a crowbar or something on them.

Right, apart from getting depressed seeing all that's being done to that car knowing the state of my cars

Also depressing but you're right, I have the how2 and read his instruction too.

Cables have been reset now and you were right, easy job. Haven't driven much since but gear changes feel more "crisp", car still pulls forward a bit when trying to get into 1st gear with clutch engaged though. I'll drain some oil when servicing but guess I have a clutch problem
