yes, you can.
most generic maps are just that, optimized for one engine, and rolled out across lots.
but, it won't be the perfect map for the Astra, I'd recommend talking to @Teapot.

The astra and vectra have different software versions. I suspect reading the file from the vectra and writing it to the astra using MPPS or similar flash tool will result in a bricked ECU. But I'm always happy to be proven wrong .
@caigey I seem to have a project on my PC with your username, with a couple of versions. So it wasn't a generic map @bonehead.

Hi @Teapot you are correct you created the Maps for my vectra when I had it and it worked great. I used the same Map and it worked fine on my wife’s vectra but both were 08 plates with the same engine.
I no longer have any of the vectras but still have a copy of the map file on my laptop. My friend has an Astra with the same engine and that’s why I was wondering if I could just install the same map? I don’t want to chance it if it would brick the ECU.
Do you still do mapping Teapot? If you can PM me a price for the Astra I can see if he is happy to pay and I can read/write the file?

No problem at all. I suspect both your vectra's had the same software version, hence you were successful. I'll send a PM shortly...

Astra also comes with M32 chocolate gearbox, thus if you not brick you ecu, with a good map you can puke your gearbox

I wasn't suggesting the vectra map was a generic map, I was suggesting using the map from one car on a different car would be akin to using a generic map, ie not optimized. and I apologize for the mistake, I wrongly assumed all 1.9 engines use the same software.

I wish it was that simple. Even in the lifetime of the 1.9 CDTI vectra/signum there were at least 3 different hardware versions for the ECU, and for each of those several different software versions. I've counted at least 14 different combinations of hardware and software version on vectra/signum alone. Then for astra/zafira there are another set of hardware part numbers, each with it's range of software updates over the years.
The OP was just very lucky he had two vectra's that just happened to have the same hw and sw numbers last time. I remember now he did discuss it with me, and sent me the read from the second vectra at which point I saw they were identical and said he could re-use the remap file I did for his first vectra, as long as he wasn't bothered about the customisation.
