Default Tyre pressures quick question ?

I have changed the wheels and tyres on my car with the result of strange, almost wobbly handling when turning. The wheel and tyre sizes are the same the only difference is the load rating. The previous tyres were 91 rated, the new ones are 95 extra load rated. I have a 1.9 CDTi.

The question is: Does the higher load rated tyre need a higher pressure?

No same pressures, but as you've changed the wheels have you had them balanced? Are they identical wheels with the same dimensions? or slightly different? Was something knocked while being changed to throw the geometry out. Was it a Vx side jack, trolley jack or car lift. Oh so many parameters to consider.

Have you checked the bolts are torqued up properly...last thing you want is a wheel falling off

Edit: Have you done many miles on them yet? New tyres on the front will often understeer, especially if the rears have not been changed.

They are the correct fitment, have spigot rings and are perfectly balanced. Thet just dont feel direct when changing direction, as if the tyre is underinflated and moving laterally when turning. I have seen a few sites that say you should be 4.5 psi higher for a higher rated tyre, I was wondering if anyone knew for definate, also in the owners manual for the 3.2 which uses this rating of tyre it is quoted at 40 psi.

I have the black DTM alloys off of the "Vectaru" on my car and they are 18" with 225/40/18 toyo's t1r with a load rating of 92y and i run them at 40 psi all round i did do a bit of experimenting with pressures when i first fitted them and the higher pressure is just about spot on in all weather conditions HTH

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

I had 2 new tyres from Dick Fit, noticed wheel wobble at 70mph on the way home & the steering seemed off centre, when I checked it at the local filling station I had 24psi on one side & 35 on the other, whats more I have found marks on the rims now I've washed it & they kept me waiting 2 hours.

    Running 38psi all round on 225/45 18's

Take photos of the damage, National tyres scratched one of mine a few weeks ago when I got a puncture on the other side of the country. I took it to a local place and they are going to sort it out they believe it can be repaired but if it isn't done to my satisfaction they will be replacing the wheel. The guy said they would repair or replace depending on the damage so I just made it clear I wasnt happy with a repair as I have seen problems on repaired wheels but he wheel has been repaired in the past before I got it.
