Default DPF Drill & ECU Remap - thoughts please.

    Guys,

I keep getting the message on the dash every few weeks on the Astra J CDTI 2011 saying DPF full, continue driving.

My thoughts are to sell the car and get a petrol, but we like the car and waited ages to find the right one. So I have been speaking to a local garage who did a DPF removal and Remap on my mates BMW X5.

Basically, the guy at the garage said they wont remove it on the J, but they drill holes in the filter, and then re-map the ECU. All in £350.00.

    Whats your thoughts guys?

    Thanks,
    G

From what I've read, remaps on Astra-J's are hit and miss. The person doing it, REALLY needs to know what they're doing.

I'd get the ecu software updated at the main dealer as there was a technical service bulletin about the dpf regeneration procedure that the ecu does, then get the dpf manually/ forced regeneration and then drive it at high speed low gear to perform an active regeneration. You could see if you can get this update for free under warranty under the 'fit for purpose' route etc

New mot rules and test will cause a failure if any visible smile is detected ie visually detect if someone has drilled through the dpf etc

Reference the MOT, apparently the way this is done is at the top, so technically when underneath the car it wont be visible .

How can I check if there is a S/W update for this?
