    Default A18XER engine

Can anybody tell me if a Z18XER engine can be used in place of an A18XER? Trying to find out what the actual difference is. Thanks

If you have a look at these links you will see that the part numbers are different. Wethers thats just due to VX changing the part number I have no idea. One thing to be aware of is that the Z18XER in the Vectra only used the F17 5 speed gearbox and the A18XER in the Insignia used the M32 6 speed, so whether they were interchangeable again I have no idea.

Thanks very much. I was only going to use the bare engine and swap all the ancillaries from the A18 engine onto the Z18 engine. I did think the bell housing may be different due to the 5 or 6 speed gearbox difference.

    Vehicle : Insignia

    Trim : Sri

    Engine : A18XER

    Year : 2009

Default I'm looking into it too

I've spent most of this week looking into the same thing. I've just looked at http://7zap.com/en/ and have been through the parts for both engines. The only difference seems to be in the camshafts. Even a new short engine for both z18xer and a18xer are the same so no issues with the gearbox mounting up should be there either. For less than half the price of a 2nd hand a18xer engine i'm inclined to buy a z18xer, swap the camshafts and give it a try!

Those numbers are referring to the clutch and flywheel which as you said are different due to the different gearboxes. These should swap over from the original a18xer engine.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but did anyone try this swap in the end? My A18 siggy just gone pop, giving some serious thought to trying this idea out! Cheers
