Default How have they done that?????

Well, my car went in to vx yesterday to have a creak investigated in the b pillar/roof area. They were going to remove the headlining and check all the spot welds etc. They wanted it for two days, so I was expecting a call this afternoon to say it was ready.

Well, I did get a phonecall, but it wasn't what I expected. It went along the lines of.
"We're sorry but your car's not ready yet. We're waiting on a part for it."
I naturally asked what part they were replacing.
"A windscreen, we smashed it while removing the headlining"

I must admit that I wasn't expecting that reply at all

Yep, that about sums up VX service, give it a damned good check over when you pick it up for any marks around the screen from breaking / fitting it ...

My guess would be some numpty give it to much welly trying to remove the rear view mirror from the screen, doesn't take that much sideways stress like that to crack a laminated screen.

How the could they break a windscreen removing the headlining?!!!!!!!

Definitely check the car over with a fine tooth comb when you get it back, and make doubly sure the screen is fitted properly and is the right spec, and that your rain sensor (if fitted) is working properly.

If they've managed to break a windscreen when taking the headlining down, Gawd knows what else they may have done!!!

    My thoughts exactly.

I was quite impressed with them until this point. They had the car in last week and had a quick look at the problems that I mentioned to them.
One being that on occasions going over speedbumps I could hear a bit of a noise. Only very feint though, and 90% of the time it was silent.
They didn't even hesitate to order new drop links and bushes. Also they had a quick run in it and said that they'd need to remove the headlining to investigate the little creak further.

The normal resonse on the sheet from dealers is "No Fault Found" so to get them to take some action was great.
Then I get the phonecall to say they've smashed my screen!!

Oh well, I suppose these things happen on occasions, but I will be making sure it is absolutely 100% when I do get it back

You would be amazed at how easy it is to crack a windscreen from the inside.
I speak from experience only takes a light nudge with your elbow or something. And a stone chip only takes a tap with one finger
