    Default Stainless Steel Exhaust

Never really thought about this till recently - if it's stainless, does that mean it won't rust, and therefore should last indefinitely?

If so, it's got to be a long term investment as well as a performance mod, surely?

Or do they just rust away like regular zorsts?

if it's a FUL stainless system and they use a decent guage of stainless steel on the pipes and boxes, then it should have a lifetime warranty..stainless steel doesn't rust after all.. BUT.. there are folks out there who fit 'stainless' systems which are stainless pipes of a thin guage and then boxes which are of a mild steel construction but just wrapped in stainless.. my younger brother got caught on that one....

if you go to somewhere like 'powerflow' or the like then you should get what you pay for.. ask to look at what they intend to fit..

I have stainless systems on my SAAB's and they have a lifetime warranty. If you use a reputable dealer with a bit of history you should be ok.

Your insurance company will assume that it's a performance enhancing sports exhaust & will probably up the premium accordingly

presumably that means if they check it and find it starting to rust, they'll replace it FOC?

Not necessarily; my son put a four port stainless performance exhaust (£400!!) on his Corsa. Insurance company (Bell) didnt charge any extra but put in a clause that the vehicle would only be covered for standard replacement exhaust.
