Started doing this recently, worse in colder weather & varies with fan speed. Has anyone achieved a permanent cure, without replacement of the fan motor?
Thanks.

Take the glove box out then you will see the bottom of the motor. There are white tracks of what looks like silicone rubber. Where they all meet at the bottom take a small screwdriver and punch a hole trough it. Now spray some white lithium grease through the hole and bobs your mothers brother. WD40 wont last more than a day or too so its important you use a spray grease.
Thanks Daz - I assume your talking about the bottom (non fan end) bearing - I had a go at the top motor bearing this afternoon, with a toothbrush dipped in engine oil...... could just reach! It seems to have cured it for the moment, if the noise comes back - I'll try your method.
It is intermittent, seems worse with colder weather.
There is no sign of dampness there & the drain hole is clear - new cabin filter recently too. Of course, there could have been neglect before I bought the car.

Having had to change my blower unit twice, I have to add that once the motor unit has been damaged as a result of unintended restrictions and winding overheating, you will end up replacing the blower (and resistor).
Just make sure that the root cause (blocked skuttle drain and water ingress) is solved before you change it
Thanks for all your help.
