2008 1.9 z1dth hp fuel pump coded or not?

Hi my lovely 2008 Vectra has developed a leaking fuel pump my garage has told me its a seal that has gone.
They phoned a local Vauxhall dealer who quoted well over a £1000 for a new pump.
I asked them if I could get a second hand one of ebay but they said its not as easy as that something about coding old ones to new.
Is this right and have i no option but to buy a new one?
Any info would be great.
