    Default Stereo and Speakers!

I know that quite a few of you guys have fitted aftermarket stereo's and aftermarket speakers etc. I have done this in all my previous cars, but was concerned about doing it in the vec, and I really like the sound of the origional speakers and like the look of the origional stereo! Not being rude, bit i have seen some pics of aftermarket stereos and dont think they look right in the vec.. care to agree or disagree? also should i change the speakers?

YOu could get a JL cleansweep and make the standard unit sound really good , removes all the nasty peakes in the factroy set eq , like on my cdc40 opera it turns the bass down at higher levels and treble up , all you then get is a nasty shrilly sound .

Depends on your reasons for wanting to upgrade - if you want crystal clear sound at sensible volumes, change the head unit, the OE speakers are actually pretty good, but the difference from upgrading the HU is unbelieveable.

If you're planning on really cranking it up on a regular basis, change the speakers too.

    My vote? Head unit only

Before i put all the amps & cr*p in mine i changed the head unit first and it did make a lot of difference to the sound - instantly better. So if you only want it a bit better then just do that. If you want a fair improvement do the speakers also though!

Kenwood guys said that car manufacturers only budget about £1 per speaker when they design a car. Even those with amped systems only about £5!

I say to change stereo, because the standard speakers are pretty good.

I was impressed with just changing head unit

I think the sound is OK for standard fit stereo and I also think the factory fit looks good. I'd stick with standard.
Fitted an aftermarket HU (using original speakers) to my old veccy-b and actually wasn't as impressed with the look/sound difference as I thought I would be; even though the new unit had good eq settings, mp3 playback, sd card slot and usb socket!!!!

Standard fit is OK IMHO since there is too much other noise intruding to call for a real hi fi set up. The CD70 is not as good as the cabasse system in the old ren-no - which even my daughter said was kickin'....... Just had to listen to her rubbish when in the car!

taking out the CD70 causes issues with the steering wheel controls, satnav etc, so I'll put up with a bit on tinny sound, thanks!
