Steering rack identification for replacement

A friend of mine is having to replace his steering rack on his 2004 1.9 150 as its leaking bad a cutting out intermittently while driving. We topped the fluid up as it was almost bone dry but its pretty much leaked it out again.


I've put his VIN number into ECAT and its come up with 2 choices which have different IDENT codes and seem to be LHD

The only difference we thought was just where the power steering fluid res was located (his is attached to the rack and NOT behind the wing)

I cant seem to find a definitive answer on how to find out which one he has and therefor needs. The only solution i've read on here is to take the old one out and look on the numbers on the rack. The only problem with this is that we need to take out and replace in 1 go as the car is needed daily.

you could go ask Vauxhall....or if its down to a choice of two buy them both and return the 'wrong' one..

It's an SRi with traction control ( I think they call ESP )
