Default Strange One - Bit of Help

O.K. I Bought a new interior Light, this time one with map reading lights - as I never had them until now.

What I have noticed - I'm not sure that its because the car is unlocked or even when it is locked (Keys in or Out) - the Passenger side Map light is still on, although not very brightly - and the Buttons are illuminated.

I Just wanted to Know is this normal?? or is it something else that is not supposed to be.

    HEEEELLLLLP MEE!!

    Not supposed to be.

Map light should only be on when the relevant button is pushed in, and the buttons only illuminate when the car is first unlocked (when the interior light comes on - but only when first unlocked, not when you then open the door again) or when the side/headlights are on.

Thats what I thought, but it seems that it is on all the time, locked the car and watched it, the interior lights went out as they do but the map light and the buttons stayed on.

Im a bit baffled. I think that ill take it out again and take a look, see if there is anything irregular making a connection.

There is a little power at the bulb all the time, do you have LEDS in it, they need less power to show a little light, mine used to glow all the time when I had leds in, nothing to worry about ... the joys of canbus !!

Oddly no, its just an ordinary lamp, that was the bit that boggled me as well as the fact the buttons are constantly illuminated as well.....

    My head hurts lol

Obviously there is a permanent 12V there to be able to switch the lamps on when you like with the keys out.... who knows

Maybe it is one of the Joys of Canbus

Yep, there is definitely a permanent 12V there as the lights can turn on with the ignition off. Have you maybe caught the ribbon cable or something? Definitely no chance of a wrong/misaligned connection somehow? I've never had one of those units apart/off the roof as it came standard on mine - so I don't know exactly what all the wiring is like.

Had no need to take the roof components apart - yet!

Think I must've had most things below the roof line out though!

Checked the Ribbon, nothing damaged to it, its a black multi-way plug that just clicks straight in, no chance of misaligning them at all. Gonna take another look at it and see is i can spot anything strange.

Get adventurous D - Take the Roof lining off for the fun of it.
