    Default service cost's ???

I just called grimshaws VX Eccles Manchester.
And now i'm just confussed over getting my 06 signum 1.9 5800 miles serviced.
I asked what service i would need.
She told me i could leave the car until 2 years old or 20000 miles and do a flexiserv or something, but will need to use synthetic oil. But she said they do not recommend this service. Y to get my money?
Second she said a Intrim service 109 Quid---- Oil and Filter changed.
Third she said a full service 195 Quid---- Oil and filter, Air filter, Fuel filter
    changed.
I understand they should also CHECK some other stuff, stamp book and clear service light etc.
But should i juat wait and get it done at 20000 or 2 year or get the full service done now and every year.
    What do you think?
Will this be better for car and resale value?

The garage where I bought my Signum had it serviced before I collected it, at 20,000 miles 1st. service! they were charged £190.10 that included brake fluid change, hope that helps.

Mine regularly does 20K between services, I dont agree with it though. I would suggest and oil change at your local Kwik Fit (don't laugh, even they can't bodge an oil change) and they only charge £25,can't be bad.

Personally I think oil should be changed every 5k (if mainly short journeys) and 10k for mostly motorway miles......... Then again, mine drinks so much oil it effectively has 4 changes between services!

I think you should service it as the manufacturer has stated. They have validated this approach, and I (and I doubt anyone on here either) have any data to disprove them, that is credible anyway. I also wait for the full service interval counter to show.

It's the best way IMO, the counter is there for a reason. Changing oil at 5K is not only an expensive waste of time, but also a waste of resources and disposing of the materials.

But when you see the colour of the oil and the **** that's in it when you drop the oil you would realise why I like to change often. I find this is especially important on lower mileage cars as there seems to be a fair whack of **** in the oil during the first 10K.

I do however understand your point of view that the manufacturer tests the cars to comply with their servicing requirements, but everyone has a personal preference.

Hmmm, the last service I had done, both the Veccy and Astra was £270,

Thats for a 20K service, Full engine flush, Fuel system flush, break fluid change, full Syn oil , and a free car wash and loan car ,

    does that sound expensive ?

YES, it does. Expensive even if that price was for both of them together.

In my experience, judgement and opinion.

Engine oil and filter change = £30 over the counter (1.8 petrol, longlife oil)
Engine flush = waste of money / time / resources
Fuel system flush = waste of time / money / resources
Brake fluid change = mmmmm unsure, but never done one on any of my cars.
Car wash = £2 at local carwash
Loan car = unnecessary if you self service for £32 all in.

Colour of oil is no real indicator as to it's performance.

smell is though, and the "lumpy" bits I have found in the past. Don't get me wrong, my 1.8 does the 20K service thing fine, and I don't mind (cos its a company car so if something goes I don't really care), but I "prefer" regular changes in my own cars. As I have said, its all preference

At the last service I asked them to not wash and valet it. Spent too much time gettiing rid of the swirls for them to put them back.
