sounds like your aerial is goosed tbh, I know I had a warranty replacement a few years back on mine as I couldn't get any stations without crackle.

Doesn't the CD70 have a DAB aerial though?

I had a similar thing, crappy reception and absolutly nothing on AM, but mine was a CDC40DAB unit. The CD70 is not DAB. Took mine in the dealer and they fitted a new aerial base unit and hey presto it worked like new, so if it's still under warranty I'd get it booked in. The aerials have a power booster , it may be that the element within the aerial base has gone, is the sat nav still working ok or are losing the signal with that too? As you are running a modulator I am assumming that the FM-Mod is dire too but not sure from your post, then it may be the HU that needs replacing, again speak to the dealer or unless someone here has had the same problem.

I fitted a Dension FM modulator to my CD70 Nav and the FM reception went down hill big time. The lead suplied by dension that converts from the plug on the output of the I-pod FM modulator to the fakra connection is rubbish. I have tried numerous other suppliers eg auto leads but no one makes a lead with the required connections that is any better. One specialist I contacted also said they have had the same problem with the Dension.

My FM signal for the radio is just OK when the ignition is on and therefore powering up the modulator. If it is not powered up no reception on the radio. It might be worth checking if there is a ignition live to the FM modulator. There is no ignition live to the CD 70 as standard. The easiest place to pick it up is from the cig lighter.
