Default What oil is recommended for a 3.2V6?

As above, My car currently has 33k on the clock so it's around 7,000 miles til my car is next due a service and I fancy doing an oil change, whilst in Halfords yesterday I decided to find out what oil I'd need,

In the book next to the oil section it said that I need 0W 30 fully synthetic, is this correct?

If so what brand do I get, what is recommended? Am I best just going to Vauxhall and getting it from there? also any advice on how to go about doing an oil change would be greatly appreciated, is it worth replacing the filter element and doing an engine flush at the same time?

I'd rather do an interim oil change myself for 1) so I know I'm maintaining the car as best I can & 2) I want to learn to do these things myself so I can continue to do interim services on the car,

    Any help appreciated,

    Kev

As you've quite rightly noticed, not all Fully Synthetic 0W30 oils are the same!
Consult the Handbook and you will see a list of standards that looks like this :
    ACEA A3/B3/B4/C3
    API SM/CF

Take a copy of these and compare oils, you can use any of these
Providing you use oils that meet this requirement, then you can be quite flexible on the range of Fully Synthetic oils, so could probably also consider :
    0W30
    5W30
    0W40
    5W40

I have found my local TESCO store does one that meets this requirement, £8.97 for 2 litres

the ONLY oil i'd reccomend and use is VX's 5W30 fully synthetic.. thats what the engine was designed to use..move away from this grade at your own peril..and yes, change the filter as a matter of course.. they are what protects the engine from all the little bits of crud in the oil, so it's false economy not to do it..

thats where the filter is, in that alloy housing..don't forget to change the 'o' ring seal on the lid either or it can drip..

at that mileage, and as it's not a diesel, i wouldn't flush it.. unless of course it's got a patchy service history..the only special tool needed is a torx bit for the sump plug and a 32mm socket to undo the filter cap..

I prefer Castrol RS 0w 30, always seems to last longer and doesn't seem to come out as black and gungy when changed.

Cheers fir the help lads! muchos appreciated!

So GSI, I'm getting 5W30 Vauxhall fully synthetic? How much of that will I need?

Then I need a filter element and an O ring, Correct?

From there I undo the sump plug with the torx bit making sure I have something to contain the oil as it comes out, then tighten the sump plug back up, fit the nex filter, then refill with fresh oil and run, is that the correct order?

Also does anyone know how much wedge I should arm myself with to get the necessary parts from Vauxhall?,

the procedure is correct, drain the sump 1st, then just bring your drain can a little further forward to get under the front lip of the filter housing and unscrew that....refit new filter and sealing ring, refit sump plug and 'o' ring..refill with 4.5 litres of Mr VX's finest 5w30 fully synthetic and fire it up....

run till the oil pressure light has gone out, then stop the car and wait a few minutes before doing another level check..if it needs any more ( un likely) then just remember that min to max on the dipstick is 1 ltr and judge accordingly..

the oil filter is 9192426 at £4.64+ vat, retail..

    the oil is 93165212 at £28.75 + vat.retail..

    the o ring is pence..litteraly..

thou if you try to get trade you can save yourself a fiver off those prices..spend a half hour doing it, and then sit back knowing you've saved yourself £70 over the price VX will charge you to do it..
