Snapped H&R
After around 3 years, my passenger side H&R decided to lower the car even more, by chopping off it's own top coil.
It was quite a sight when the strut came off (unfortunately I don't have photos) as the top mount bearing had dropped through the spring, leading to the car being suspended by pretty much what was left of the top coil.
If you imagine the top mount bearing still being in situ on the top coil as it would be on the photo below, you'll get the idea of what it looked like on the car.
After swapping the rest of the springs, the drivers side showed signs of deterioration/rust in roughly the same place as the passenger side has snapped at, it looks like water gets in inbetween the spring and the anti-rattle sheathing, then sits there and eats away at the powder coating of the spring, then into the steel itself.
Always having these bright ideas after the event, it would probably be worth trying to seal the ends of the anti-rattle sheathing if anyone is fitting new H&Rs to their car before fitting the strut back to the car - that should prolong the life of the spring itself.
Luckily it was only £160 for a new set, and they're definitely much less chocolate than the VX springs, but still - no springs last forever!

Did you check the warranty on the springs? Maybe you can get them replaced under it.

I've already bought and replaced the springs, and according to the bumf from H&R in the box says "if there are any complaints after purchase, please contact your dealer", nothing about a warranty - nor could I find anything on H&R's website.
It's no big deal tbh, I've got 3yrs or so out of them - I'm happy enough with that. Ultimately vecs are known for having an appetite for springs, so although it was a bit irritating, I just opened up a case of c'est la vie and got on with it!
