Insignia 1.8 petrol impersonating a diesel!
Hiya peeps, hopefully someone will be able to help me out.
Been having a couple of error codes come up, either stored or pending (see below) and after an oil change & a new intake cam position sensor my 1.8 petrol car has decided it would like to sound like a diesel, mostly from idle to 1500rpm. It has done this before the oil change & new sensor, but after restarting the engine a couple of times, the noise usually disappears.
My question is does anyone know the likely cause of this noise? I have an exhaust cam position sensor being delivered soon & I will fit it whatever. I also have 2 new cam solenoids & will also fit these. I've read that it's advisable to remove a filter from the solenoids, but the new ones appear to have 3, 1 on the end & 2 around the shaft itself. Which one(s) is/are recommended to be removed?

Quick update.
Fitted the cam solenoids last night after removing all 3 filters fitted to the shaft & end of both solenoids. Drove to work this morning & no knocking sound, result!
Also checked for any pending fault codes, none found!
Will fit the exhaust cam position sensor tonight & hopefully that'll be that little problem solved!

Still no knocking sounds & performance seems to be alot better than even before the knocking sound started!

Do you have the part number, cost and supplier for the cam solenoids? Might be in the market for two genuine gm one's. Cheapest I can find so far are genuine gm from eBay at £35 each.

So you removed all of the filters, i.e. the black one on the end of the solenoid, and the two others that sort of clip together around the body of the valve? Always thought it was just the ones around the body of the valve folk removed, don't know why I thought that though.

The Vauxhall part number is 55567050. I got mine from eBay, apparently they're OEM & are made by INA. The item number was 232059897633. I paid £25.95 for each one + £2.50 postage each. I wasn't able to find actual Vauxhall ones.
Yes, I removed all the filters on both solenoids. There's a how to on here I think that has pics showing the ones to remove & I've read that the field remedy from Vauxhall is to remove the filters as they're only needed during running in.

Not sure if they're the same solenoids as on my vvt Vectra but I removed the black end filter and the brown shaft filters on the inlet and exhaust cam solenoids and it's never been happier.
Mine was knocking on cold start for a few seconds till the oil pressure had increased before the filters were removed and since it's been quiet and I do regular oil changes at 3 month or 3k miles whichever comes first.
