Any experience of the Astra Sports hatch.

Been at the local car supermarket today with the missus to look for a replacement for her motor.

She doesn't want a Vec because they are, "too big".

She's narrowed it down to three.

Astra Sports hatch (SRi 1.8)

Astra Twintop (1.8)

and ..................................wait for it............................
































a bleedin' Signum.

She fell in love with a 56 plate Ultra Blue 2.2 direct. How does that work?


Anyway anybody got any experience of the first two?

I had a astra 5 door for a loaner from the dealer for a bit and I must say I was very impressed. Have you tried looking at the 120 cdti, as its the same 16v as in the vec 150 cdti's, just different mapping.

I had a 5 door '05' sxi which is exactly the same setup as the sri, just without the sport button and i absolutly loved it. Handling was superb and economy wasn't bad either (it was the 1.6 though), and I only got shut because I needed the extra space of the veccy. The only thing that would put me off the sport hatch would be the lack of rear headroom and the boot opening is a bit narrow compared to the 5 door, but if you're not bothered about them it's an excellent car.

My other half as an 05 Design 1.8 Astra Sport Hatch

I was actually quite impressed with the interior of it, had the items in it which I had to mod in mine like the rear courtesy lights and the rear tints.

Having got a 150bhp Vec which is now nearer 200bhp myself when I drive hers I don't find it all that great, when you are up atg 60/70mph the revs are quite high but compared to the 1.8 Vec I used to have it is fantastic
