    Default Paint problem I think

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a quick question, I cleaned the Bird guano from the bonnet of the car the other day, to find a great patch (6cm X 6cm) of what I can only describe as lacquer peeled from the car exposing the base paint underneath.

I was not using anything other than car shampoo to clean it, honest not a Brillo pad in site.

Do you think this is a fault with the paint? how long is the paint warranty on a Vauxhall (53 Signum) Is it worth visiting the dealer to see if it is covered under warranty. Bit of a pain as you will aggree.

    Thanks
    Ian B.

the problem is the acid in the bird poo...it eats the laquer right off..you'll have to get it repainted....

if you ever get any on your car, wash it straight off....

    Default Paint Problem I Think

Bird pooh is best removed by rehydrating it with a really damp sponge. Leave it on for a good ten minutes and the pooh will slide off.

Paint should be better than that, see a dealer first.

LOL, I doubt seriously a dealer will even entertain the idea that they should repair the damaged panel..Bird poo is very acidic and attacks the laquer.. it's a well known thing, and totally outside the control of VX or it's agents in it's application..

It's 'just one of those things'..folks accept it..

    Default Paint problem I think

The laquar is there to protect the paint against bird dropping etc. I spent 16 years in paint and coatings development and peeling should not occur within the time frame your car falls into. The surface would have to be damaged by abrasion or it's been poorly applied. Has it been repaired in it's lifetime?

It would part of the barrage of tests, paints have to endure.

You should of course remove bird dropping as soon as, especially in strong sunlight.
