Default Check my detailing shopping list.

Just bought myself my first Vectra which i pick up on Monday. I need to stock up on some new detailing kit and have been reading these forums for tips.

    So Far Ive decided on
20 Microfibre cloths which I got from Costco for 9 + Vat
4 x Microfibre wash mits also from Costco for £6 + Vat
1 Gallon of wonder Wheels for £8 + Vat

    2 x New buckets

Now for the bits I havent got and I'm not sure on, so please advise a noob.
was thinking of the following :-
    Megs 3 stage Kit
    Megs Clay detailing Kit
    Megs Glass cleaner
    Megs Gold class polish
    Megs Gold Class shampoo

Now the reason I've picked most of this stuff is that its 3 for 2 in Halfords and I've read good things about Megs products.

But Im open to other suggestions, My car is Silver Lightning in colour are there products that suite some colours better than other ?

    Thanks

    Deano

I would strongly advise against Wonder Wheels, too many a horror story with it. I'd go for Megs Wheel Brightener or Megs Hot Rims.

If your visiting Costco, see if they have any Armour-all .
    Usually you'll get a 3 pack for £3 + the dreaded vat.
That'll be your tyres and plastic trim sorted !

I wouldnt bother with the Gold Class polish if you are getting the 3 Stage stuff as step 1 is a polish, step 2 is more of a glaze than a polish and stage 3 is the wax, however heard that stage 3 isnt up to much ie doesnt last very long so substiute the stage 3 for something like collinite, also check out www.detailingworld.co.uk for more tips and check out www.cleanandshiny.co.uk for the purchasing products or have a look at any of the other approved traders on DW

nice list, I would, and have added ...

one of meguiars really good microfibres, purely used for removing polishes. ( cheap mf are fine, but the meguiars is perfect for that swirl free finish and really easy product removel. ) ( I have the £9 white one )

meguiars yellow sponge product applicators, they minimise waste, wash easy, and are very universal .

Agree with what others have previously said, and Im looking into Collinite for the stage 3 personally ... but, it does smell great lol..

maybe a megs drying towel if you find the mf's you have are small ..

    1. wash / treat alloys
    2. wash car, top first, windows, above arch line, below arch line in that order.
    3. clay the car
    4. wash again as per no.2
    5. dry
    6. paint clean, stage 2, collinite..

I find I rarely get to do all of this in one day, hence , I'll concentrate on alloys, or as per the last few days, the rear of the car only
