5 speed / 6 speed gearbox difference?

I am looking to buy an 06 or 56 plate 2.2 Vectra after some person who must have been driving with his eyes closed sped into the back of my 02 plate 2.2 Vectra in a tailback from a roundabout. It did pretty well considering the speed he was going, but is beyond repair.

Apologies, if this question has already been answered, but I searched, and could not find anything:-

I have noticed that both 5 speed and 6 speed are available, but I have only found a single set of figures for economy and performance for the manual 2.2

Does anyone know any source of figures that show the difference?

I have seen that Motorpoint (who I was impressed with when I bought my 02 Vectra years ago) and Trade-Sales both have good deals. Anyone recommend anywhere else I should also look? (Within 100 miles or so of Milton Keynes).

hmm, lets just say avoid the carshop at northampton..they like to sell 'add-ons' and boost the sale price, and really want to sell you finance even if you go in with cash..

We've got on well with Motorpoint at Derby..and the 2.2 manual in our family with a 5 speed box will return up to 38mpg on a run..

the 2.2 is a really underated engine in my opinion.. it's the hidden gem in the range.. rev it a bit and it returns quick seamless power, or will cruise all day sipping fuel..

have you tried www.networkq.co.uk

There's AVAILABLE CAR near Derby or go on AUTOTRADER website-type in your postcode and within 100 miles and it should give you a range of cars.

Can only think that 6th gear is better if you do more Motorway trips. Used to have a V6 Alfa and 6th meantyou could go faster at lower revs or pull away from 20MPH! Think if it's on the car you want-TAKE IT!

I think the 5 speed was on the pre- facelift and the 6 speed is on the facelift.

Yep, as prm says, 55 plate or later should be six speed, as fitted in my 56 elite. economy is good, i've averaged 36mpg across 8,000 miles.

Can recommend motorpoint at derby ,just bought a 2.2 direct ,5 month old with 9 k on for £9995.thats a 1000 less than most other car supermarkets
