I had this on my 1.9 (I know its a different engine) and had the same fault codes. After changing every fuse and relay in the car I had to admit defeat and had the ECU changed ( by little teapot) and its been perfect ever since. It turned out that my ECU had been taken apart and re mapped but not resealed and the water and cold got into it and slowly destroyed it.

I spent years researching what it could be but never found a definite answer but the "main relay" fault codes did point towards the ECU when I found what little info I could find

I'm not sure where the abs and ecu plugs in the engine bay are?
