Wtf? Copied from Metro.
"A driver who appeared to be talking to a parrot – yes, a parrot – perched on the steering wheel was also stopped after his van was spotted swerving between lanes on the M20, the force said."
A journalist was stopped and fined £200 and given 6 points for using her mobile phone while she was on her way to cover a police operation cracking down on motorists using their phones while driving.

people I saw caught on the news were complaining it was too much, putting new, inexperienced drivers off the road - and one woman sais they've nearly doubled it, £100 - £200 and 3 points to 6..... "nearly" doubled? Who taught her to count?
Seriously, they had to do something, no-one was taking a blind bit of notice of the original penalties, we could always tell when someone was using a phone as thewir sapeed would vary up and down by 10mph or more, they'd have trouble staying in lane - and the ones going round roundabouts or junctions, well - nuff said.
Spot on Ian.
After seeing some of the accidents on the news etc caused by mobiles then the sentencing should be the same as drink driving IMO, absolutely no need as plenty of time if you get a call to pull over when convenient.
I take great pleasure letting my mobile ring away while I'm driving, if they want to speak to me that badly I'm sure they can leave a voice mail
And factory Bluetooth or not, my phone ain't ever getting connected.
