have VX used correct oil?

Just had my 2 year old (pre face lift) SRi 3.0 CDTi serviced. It's an estate so don't know if it has a DPF or not (and don't know if that impacts on what oil it should have).

The invoice states they used S/Syn (semi synthetic??) 10/40W.

Is that the correct oil, as my hand book says GM-LL-B-025 0/30, 0/40, 5/30, or 5/40 no mention of 10/40??

I'd get it checked, as far as I know you should only use fully syn in that engine, if it was a Vx dealer you need to ring around a few and see what they say, if it was an indy garage, they probably have no idea of the oil spec for your car, if it's on the invoice you could have hassle getting it worked on free in yr 3, especially if you have a major failure like the turbo

This is exactly why mine is getting changed at the Vx dealers today, although I just bought it, and it was serviced 3 days ago ( oil is clean, I checked ) I have no idea what they used, just a shop attached to the sellers garage that does the servicings :S

I was offered semi synth or fully synth, £66 or £76 inclusive. Receptionist didnt mention the grade on the ss, but 5/30 on the fs.

It MUST be filled with 5w30 fully synthetic that meets VX's prescribed standards..end of..

if they have done the job 'cheap' by throwing in the 10w40 then it's their back luck..All the modern VX diesels, but ESPECIALLY those with DPF's, MUST use the 5w30...

As i've said before.. gone are the days now of putting any oil you like in cars.. If VX don't specifiy it , then leave it on the shelf..or face £1000's if the turbo/DPF pack up..

What about the 1.9 without DPF? The Vx dealer used semi-synth 10w40 in mine too. I asked them and they said it was fine, but not sure I believe them now...

you can use it if you ignore the service intervals and change it EVERY 10,000 miles..it will not last as long as the 5W30 oil and as such is false economy.

Thats what the man from Vauxhall sold me last night as my car has just reached 10K miles and I want to do an oil change - 5 litres for £19.00 (using VX trade club discount). With filter and sump 'O' ring sealy thing it came to £26 all in.

As Mark says, use the genuine VX long life oil. For petrols the cost is less than £30 per 5 litres over the counter. I wouldn't use anything else.

just had the 5w30 put in my 1.9cdti....purrs nicely, the engine really likes the stuff... £6 a litre +vat on a service, but almost £12 a litre for a top up bottle...

I hate to think what the 'non Vaux' garage had used .. just an engine flush over 100 miles to me whatever

Yeh I would fully endorse that. This has appeared frequently on here; seems to be a disturbing trend where some dealers put in non-longlife oil in as the original 2yr/20,000 miles (30,000 for diesel) has been replaced by 1yr/20,000(30,000 for diesel), as dealers would assume that all Vectra owners (pre- or post-facelift) would have at least one service every year irrespective of yearly mileage. Personally I wouldn't even consider leaving my pre-facelift turbo petrol 2 years before an oil change, even though my mileage is less than 10K a year, irespective of what the Eco-Service-Flex oil-life 'miles to go' indicator says. False economy, and dealers know that. Petty penny-pinching - not clever!
