    Default Rattle from engine bay

    vectra c 2003 2.0 DTI 53000 on clock

first post and hoping for some help

    engine at idle no rattle
when revs increase rattle starts (some might describe it as a tick tock sort of noise)

seems to be coming from behind the wheel arch cover on drivers side front wheel, its not got any louder over the past few months, thinking its one of the pulleys

Also is it a big job to change drive belt

    thanks in advanced

    kenny

it's not at all a big job to change the belt, and you might want to investigate very quickly.. the DTi has a hhabit of throwing off it's bottom 'pulley' as the crank damper assembly delaminates, leading to loss of the drivebelt and possible damage to the end of the crank..if i was a betting man, i'd say the rubber has delaminated and you need a new bottom pulley..

pulley looks fine, no sign of any parting of ways between damper and pulley

gave all the pulleys, alternator etc a coating of wd40 with engine runing to see if noise would go away but that had no effect.

was changing the oil today so had a good look about, found that the rubber on the pulley was very soft and i could easily move it and thats when i found that the plastic backplate bit of pulley was loose and easy to get my finger between it and the metal of the pulley soi assume i need a new pulley?
