    Default Our Vectra's Stalling

Only done it twice now in last three days and EML comes on. Other day when I got home I took it for a spin & it seemed fine. I turned ignition on & off 10 times and the EML went out. Today the EML didn't stay on this time.
    It's a 52 plate 2.2 petrol SRI on a little over 30k.
Is the crank sensor a common cause of fault as her Corsa developed this fault which was the crank sensor & she said it's behaving the same as her Corsa would. That went at around the same mileage & Vauxhall had them on the shelf as they said it was very common.

    Any ideas???

Clean up the egr valve and the air intake housing as well 1st before you go spending on it.

Is the EGR valve easy to do? I know my Astra TD certainly wasn't.

It might be the air control valve on the side of the throttle body a good clean out with carb cleaner should do the trick for a while. the air control valve can be cleaned in situ [best to remove it and do the job proporly though], It is not uncommon for the crankshaft sensor or the camshaft sensor to pack up, you would need the code from the ECU to determine which one it is if that is the fault.

I think it's bolted on to the right of the cam cover iirc, as you open the bonnet, look to the right side of the engine above the gearbox, and it should be there.

The air one which Ed mentions is the samething i said earlier, follow the air filter piping to the rear of the engine, where it goes into the unit, which looks like a carb with a butterfly, just undo 4 torx and lift away, the small pipe on the side of it that goes to the cam cover via a pipe is where it normally gets really dirty, you just have to bombard it with cleaner, of leave the whole thing immersed in cleaner for an hour or so.

A little trick is to drill a small hole in the butterfly as well (1.5mm-3mm max) this let a little air bypass the butterfly and tkes some load off of the idle control valve If the hole is to big it will rev high though and then a short self tapper comes in useful to fill the hole!

Right I've narrowed the stalling down to happening 1st thing in the morning whilst the auto choke is on. Once up to tempreture it's fine & will be for the rest of the day.
What other sensors are envolved in controling the choke other than the lamda sensor?

10 years on and the VX petrol engines are still suffering this
My previous Vectra suffered this from 2 years od, 70K miles, and the VX dealership never managed to fully resolve it
Another Vectra we had had the same problem, also at 2 years but with less miles
VX eventually agreed to buy that car back (for various other reasons)
