Steering rack leek/replace
I've noticed that the steering rack is wet around NS gaiter with power steering fluid. I'm shure steering rack is worn out and I will need a reconditioned one. Question is - is it a driveway job on car jacks, etc.? Im shure subframe will have to go down a bit. I'm OK with tools etc. Only time when I take car to garage is MOT. Cheers.

Dead easy job a and no no need to remove the subframe
did mine a yr ago
just undo the drop links so you can tilt the anti roll bar up
disconect all pipes and wires to the rack if pump on the rack then take off and its cage
2 bolts hold the rack to the sub frame
rack then pulls out of the passengers wheel arch
only took me an hr all in
was told by mechanic at Vauxhall that's the way they do it
although customer gets charged for sub frame removal

Just finished swaping my steering rack. You're right about subframe - no need to touch at all. Rack came out from driver side wheel arch. Whole job took me 4h including changing flexi exhaust pipe and lunch time.

Many thanks for this, was basically resigned to dropping the subframe and having a headache with it.
Done as you said, had to take the back bush off the drivers control arm for a bit extra space, but came out the drivers side in well under an hour

Heart broke. Gave up trying to remove steering rack so I just refitted it. Did you guys remove anything else from the rack apart from the pump before pulling it out the passenger side?
