    Default Chamois

i`m in need of a new chamois and thought id go for a good quality one, is there any particular make to go for and where to get one? Im sure when i looked in halfords they were really expensive or is it a case of you get what you pay for. I also looked at those rubber squeegy things are they really any good and worth the huge amounts?

    cheers guys

Better to get some microfibre cloths, chamois are very ad for your paint, or a meguires water magnet, thats what I use though there are some who don`t like them ...

I bought a Meguairs Water magnet after someone on here recommended them and it is fantastic!
I have since instructed all my car owning mates to get them aswell!

when i first got my megs water magnet i thought it was the bees knees, and in comparison with a chamois it is, but the one i had never really soaked up the water, just smeared a thin layer over the car, it would never get dry to the touch.

i'm now using sonus der wunder towels and they are absolutely brilliant, £18 for a pack of two from places like cleanandshiny.co.uk. i've had them for a good while now and they perform flawlessly.

people have got mixed feelings about the squeegy things, if you are ultra careful then you should be fine, but just imagine picking up a tiny stone at the beginning of a stroke, you'll end up with a nice long scratch.

to be honest, if you rinsing the car under a sheet of water, as opposed to blasting it with water straight from a hose or pressure washer, there won't be that much water left to dry off. put it this way, there isn't enough water on the car to require me to wring out the drying towel, it gets used and then goes straight in the washing machine.

a layer of wax will also help the water sheet off, rather than it just clinging to the body. plus- you get to see it bead up nicely!

And a fine mist of Megs last touch before you dry will have the car bone dry with one wipe ... I am going to try these der wunder towels, they get good press ...

oh yeah - forgot about the last touch - i don't think i could do without it now, it gets used all the time.

and to be fair i never used to use last touch with the megs.

tommy - you'll not be dissappointed with the sonus towel, they are so much thicker than the megs, and stay soft.

I bought some microfibres out of Pounstretcher this week. They're a quid each and absolutely excellent.
