The VXR has been ticking along nicely of late with no issues and Friday was the 6 monthly service so the oil got dropped, oil filter replaced and fresh engine lube pured in. I also popped a new pollen filter in with Summer just around the corner as the poor wife suffers enough with hayfever so a fresh filter was a must.

On to the wooden ramps my father made years ago, splish splash splosh oil change complete.

Pollen filter housing cleaned out ready for the new filter.

New active carbon filter ready for insertion.

With the state of the roads around here and our daily commute full of potholes and poor roads coupled with the crashy feel of the Eibach we made the decision to switch back to the original VXR springs. Having sourced brand new genuine rear springs and already having the original fronts I cracked on with fitting this weekend.

This is the part number of the OE rear springs should anyone require it. Thanks to Genuine Parts Search for the supply.

OE on the left looking beefier than the Eibach on the right.

Having test driven the ride is much improved as the OE springs are so well matched to the IDS+ shocks. Still firm but not crashy in any way and with the shocks in Sport mode they feel like the Eibach did off Sport mode. OE springs are exactly 15mm higher all round than the Eibach and most importantly it’s perfectly level front and rear. With Eibach the arch to floor measured 663mm at all four corners and with the OE springs it now measures 678mm.

    Nice job!
I wasn't able to find anywhere here the ring that sits near the spring on your table, PN 13239683. My car doesn't have it fitted and I assume it keeps some dirt from reaching the shock bearing.

A few weeks after fitting the original springs and the car feels much better, less crashy and more of a thud instead of a bang on the crap roads around here. Iím 110% the 19s donít help with low profile XL sidewalls and the higher pressures you have to run but thatís for another discussion. Itís not compromised the looks either as the wheels still fill the arch nicely and it doesnít look daft.

I popped over to my favourite wheel alignment place on Saturday MG Auto Motorsport and got it straightened up on their Hunter kit.

The old barge flicked over 55K last week with nothing to report, it just keeps on muching the miles and going and going and going…you get the idea.

As a thank you it got yet another wash, I just can’t help myself.

The front wiper motor decided it was going to start making a horrible noise a couple of weeks ago and was well on the slippery road to total failure. Having priced up a brand new genuine motor I had to sit down before fainting, even none genuine were what I class as silly money.

Wiper linkage and motor removed, bit dirty in there.

    The offending item.

A scrap yard trip was planned to Albert Looms in Spondon who Iíve used for years and once again they never fail to deliver and I grabbed two perfect motors and a pollen filter housing for £20.

Complete refurbishment of the assembly ensued and new motor bolted in place.

Original pollen filter housing had been attacked in a previous life and the top right securing clip was broken so it was replaced with a fresh undamaged used item.

All fixed and cleaned under there with the drivers side drain bung checked for blockage.

Back together with a lovely and quite wiper motor at a bargain price.

The old girl got some loving earlier this week as it was the bi-annual lubrication change having covered less than 3,000 miles in 6 months, most of which is sitting in queues to/from work as the traffic is a mare of late.

Did my usual front end underside inspection and all looking good.

Purchased new sump drain seals a few months ago so popped a brand spanker on for good measure.

Research into oil and decided to try the Mannol 5w40 Extreme as it’s a reasonable cost and exceeds all necessary specs for the Vectra VXR lump so 6L of the good stuff got poured in using my new funky Walmart 97c funnel.
