Been reading through the Brocks thread.
How does this work when you come to sell the motor and want to keep
the plate?
Do you have to pay for a new standard plate, tranfer etc.?
Thanks...

Thanks for the info.
Still in Numpty mode so just to confirm,
When it's time to sell the car, you put the private plate onto retention @ £105, get a replacement for free and when the new car arrives pay £?? to transfer the plate.
How much is the transfer?
if the the reg is on retention cert you dont have to pay anymore for the transfer as £80 of the £105 you paid was for a prepaid transfer fee!

You normally get the cars original number back, you get a certificate which has your private number on it which will be paid for ready to transfer to the new car.
Cool,
Thanks fellas gonna have a play on the dvla site.
I have found that the best thing to do is that if you are trading your old car in, get the dealer to carry out the plate transfer as part of the deal and save you £80.
If you already have another car to transfer the plate too, you just need to pay £80 transfer fee and take all of the documents of both cars.
If you do decide to put a plate on retention then you must renew the retention every 12 months otherwise the DVLA will rclaim your plate.
just some advice for you. Other than that, it's easy peasy. one of the cheapest and unique mods you will ever do.
Yup as above the fee of £105 includes the £80 transfer fee and £25 retention fee. The £25 retention fee is due every year to hold the plate to your name. As you've already payed the £80 transfer fee, when you get a new car worthy of putting the plate on you will have to pay no more to do the transfer.
I currently have mine on retention waiting for the right car to put it on, or someone to offer me silly money for the plate
I'm glad someone's cleared that up for me. I've been wondering about it but not really followed it up. I've got one in mind and it's only £250. Not saying what it is just in case someone pinches it - not that anyone here would.
