Default New 'Vectra' being rushed into production

According to Autocar, Vauxhall / Opel / General Motors, have decided that the Vectra is to be replaced by Autumn 2008, thought we all knew that already?

Apparently it is to combat a Europewide drop in sales. The first car to use the chassis was meant to be the Saab 9-5 replacement, but they postponed that and pushed the Insignia through.

Europewide drop in sales? That would explain why when I went 'shopping' the other day I was treated like royalty and was able to pretty much name the price I was willing to pay for a new XP!!

Top spec Insignia is apparently going to be a 2.8 V6, Twin turbo, 4WD, nutterbastid with 300bhp!

Makes sense really, Ford are gonna slaughter the Vectra with this new Mondeo for the time being, I mean who wants a car that's 5 yrs old in design when for the same money you can have the latest thing, and thats the way the reps will see it.

They will, but if you assume a 7 year life cycle, that means that the Mondeo will be the "new thing" for about one year, then Vectra D will be the newer design for the next 6 years until the next next Mondeo.

There are some advantages to being behind the competition.

From my experience, it takes approximately 2.5 yrs to get a 'project' off paper into full production.
    Toyota vehicles have a life-span of 5 yrs, with a face-lift after 2 yrs.
I'm not sure if other manufacturers follow this method or not.
