    Question weird steering

Hi, I know this is gonna sound daft but am sure it happened.

Was driving car about this morning stopped for ten minutes then jumped in car and drove off, steering just seemed to be floaty if that makes any sence at all I seemed to turn the wheel a lot but not much happened.

wondered if anybody else has had this, I have searched the threads but not found anything so had to ask

HMM.. the rack should still turn as normal, it would just be heavier to turn if the assistance failed... if the pump was overboosting the steering it would become sharper...so i can think of no explanation for the woolly steering right off the top of my head tonight....

well thanks for trying anyways, will keep an eye on it for next couple of days and get it to vx if it happens again. just got to get rid of the spanner light on start up now which according to threads is water in fuel filter but draining did not cure so will have to try draining some more or it will be going to vx anyhow as it was only serviced last month.

If the spanner light clears when you start the engine, then as I understand it the system is just noting there is a stored trouble/fault code - it may self clear of you may need to get it clearded via a tech test.

For the floaty steering, may be worth checking that you haven't got a broken spring - difficult to say but when my formt springs went recently, the front end just felt "wrong", almost disconnected.

so sounds like trip to get light turned of, unless anyone knows how to clear it.

My Parents old Rover had a valve in the steering pump fail in the open position which meant the steering was over assisted, to the point that there was just no knowing what the wheels were doing. Very very strange, took it around the block and it was awful to drive.

Well, worse than usual. It was like an arcade game. That light.

just disconnect the battery for 15 mins, and any stored fault codes will be removed.. far cheaper than getting VX to wipe them..
