    Default Victims of Fashion opinion?

Anyone else feel like the large number of people who dislike the C and seem to have this 'the c is so unreliable' line drilled into their heads are basing their opinion on fashion? ie, its fashionable to hate the C. Standing up and admitting you like them to all your B mates is like admitting your coming out of the closet

Im betting nearly all the bandwagon riders in the 'we hate the C' club havent even sat in one, let alone driven one. My old B sri V6 isnt a patch on my C in all aspects, and i wouldnt go back to a B now...not ever. If i wanted to go retro, i'd buy a Mk1 escort RS.

The main source of anti C opinion seems to come from B owners, who consider the B, more stylish and attractive than the C. Looks are down to personal opinion, and personally, i think the B looks as so dated. The only 'design flair' they had was the mirrors. All just my opinion of course.

When it comes down to the actual car.... the C has come so far away from the B technically its a totally different car bearing no similarties to the B at all. (hence the reason for this site).

Maybe we should have a 'meet a C day' and invite owners of B to come and take a close look at a C, go for drive in one and see just how old their B's actually are

(ive just given myself an idea for a new poll)

Any car can have problems. So far - tough wood - my Signum has better reliability than my B, but the B was a lot older whan I got heer, with many more miles.

I have 5 mates who all drive B's and they all aspire to get a C now I have one ("Its better put together""I like this interior more" etc etc). As for all of my other mates... not many of them actually realise that my car is different to all my mates B's until they get in it..... apparently its "just a vectra"!!!!!

I feel the Veccy C is the equal of the current mondeo and betters it some areas. Their is not a lot to choose between the two cars and many roadtests from various sources bear this theroy out. Can anyone on here or any other Veccy forum honestly say the Vecy B was a match for the mondeo of the time? I personally feel it lagged behind for driver appeal and wasn't any better made or particulary if any cheaper. I like the look of some of the hotter B models but feel the C is much better car in evey area including looks. Thats my opinion on these matters, not meaning too offend B owners thats just the way I see it.

I think you needed to have owned both B&C before making any judgements.
I think most peeps who pull the vec down B or C have never actually owned one of their own.

Thats a fair comment CYB it helps to make long term informed judgement on both cars. I used to own a mondeo and felt it was great car, I chose that over a Veccy B cdx 2.5 v6 due to me finding the Mondeo better to drive. When it came to choosing a new car this time it was close between the mondeo st220 and the Veccy 3.2 GSi and I chose the Veccy for various reasons. The point i'm making is it was never really close between the veccy b and the mk2 Mondy as the mondeo to me was a better car all round. Where as the new Veccy C is worthy challanger to the ford and in many ways a better car. Which to me makes the C a better car in relative terms ie among the top of its class, hope that makes sense. Again this is just my view.

What you said Cyb, is the main thing ive been trying to get across in my numerous arguments defending the C.

You have a very valid point Mike, its amazing how quickly people forget the complete and utter slagging the B got from the motoring press when it was launched. It had 7 recalls issued in one day, including replacing some dodgy gearboxes. The C hasnt had one recall yet, in 3 years.

What has impressed me the most (well apart from the amazing fuel consumption figures) is the way it is put together inside. It is absolutely silent. My GSi rattled and squeeked no end, especially the passenger seat. It just feels a more solid and robust car. It even sounds quality when you shut the doors, you lot know what I mean. I think VX are now getting it right.
