Just been out for a blast in the car......

....for the first time since I fitted the 18s and the big brake upgrade.

Come on, how many of you were expecting it to say I'd stuffed the car?!!

After fitting the 18s and the 314mm fronts (instead of my 302mm standard) I refrained from taking the car out for a seriously good blast as I didn't want to tempt fate so close to the Irmscher trip - so I rectified that tonight with a good blast on my favourite 'circuit' I like to drive.

Very, very happy with the way the car is handling. As I mentioned in my 18s thread, the handling and ride is better with the 18s - now also confirmed on the real twisties.

Even though it's only 12mm extra disc size, the brakes have got noticeably more power in them than my standard 302s did - not that they were exactly lacking. The different calipers obviously having a significant part in the improvement.

What I also noticed, is that sometimes towards the very end of the 20 mile 'circuit' I normally go, I'd get a little bit of brake fade - nothing too lary, but I'd feel it. Not a hint of it with the 314s, which is nice.

So, nothing groundbreaking there - just thought I'd share it with you!

D when you went to 18's did you change the arm things (can't remember the part) but loads of posts re if you change to 18's you are meant to get uprated ones.

Sorry for being so vague, I was just interested as I did/have toyed with the idea of 18's but a, don't want to lose ride quality and b, change to the uprated whatever they were

No I didn't - there's no real need. The arms (tie rods) aren't uprated (despite what some people say) - all they do is reduce steering travel to prevent possible rubbing. This post explains and has the actual stuff from Vx on the subject.
