Default Any one come across this problem

    Missfire?
Larisa,s Vectra B 1.8 has "koncked" out. I wonder if any one could confirm what I think the problem is and may be suggest what you mught think it is, here we go this is the history.

Several weeks ago there has been an occasional missfire then the car has been ok, I thought it might be a duff plug [have known this to happen] so I changed them, car seemed ok but did seem to miss a beat once or twice.
But when we were out this afternoon driving along no problem, then Larisa said the car doesn,t want to go when I press the accelerator, so we stopped the car opened the bonnet, the engine was not stable but shaking on tick over, when I opened the throttle the engine still shook and you could smell the cat smell from the exhaust [hydrogen sulphide smell].
So me thinking it is lack of a spark/sparks, I pulled the plug leads off the DIS Module [coil pack, some time called], one by one........... well two of them the spark jumped a very long way back to the DIS Module, yet the other two there was little to no difference when I pulled them off. when we got home I removed the plugs, to my supprise they were dry??.
I myself think that the DIS Module is knackered, what do you think, Or do you think the problem lies else where.
There are no Manegment lights coming on either, but I would not think there would be if it is the DIS Module/ plugs ETC.

Something similar here with my old Escort....to make the story short the problem was on the cables that feed the spark plugs, I replaced them and problem solved.

Sounds like the Dis pack Ed, had a similar thing on a Corsa in a previous life.

Only other suggestion based purely on the Sulphur smell from the exhaust, is the Lambda sensor, but not sure that would tie in with the syptoms of dry plugs..

I have sorted the miss fire on Larisa,s Vectra. I replaced the DIS Module, and now the motor is running as it should be. Larisa is well pleased too.

It could also be a crank or cam sensor doing it, but they usually log a code, have you had a look at the pack yet? generally when they give up like that they have a crack in them and the spark arcs out all over the place.

VV I had a good idea it was the DIS module, when I pullthe leads off it in turn the two for cylinders 2 and 3 were not sparking, but 1and4 there was a massive spark arcing across, as to the cam and crank sensors they both have been changed, they gave a code that I got from the "paper clip" test, and changed them accordingly.
