    Default Clunking from suspension

Hi, my suspension on my '05 Vectra Estate has been making clunking noises for quite a while. But its intermittant. Its not always over bumps or going round corners. Sometimes it has happened whilst going in a flat, straight line.

It sounded a bit like the suspension bush problem that other people have had.

I have finally got aroung to getting it into the VX dealer. Now apart from them charging me £12 for a courtesy car (an Aguila!!!!!!!!). They will charge me £85+vat if they don't find a fault!!!!

So I really want them to find the problem.
People who have had the suspension bush issue can you remember a surefire way of replicating this clunking noise.
So when I get a phone call asking me to demonstrate it I can.

    Cheers for the help.

Are you sure you haven't snapped a spring? Sometimes you can lose a section from one and it'll sit in the bottom of the housing, the sharpened end (or break) can result in some strange noises.
Have a good rummage around in the bottoms of the housings and see if you can fish any chunks of broken metal out if you haven't already.

Broken springs . I hope not. Ive been transporting my 2 year old around for the pas 6 months with this noise going on.

I haven't looked around at the suspension as I don't really know whats right and whats wrong.

The noise does kinda sound like the spring is moving and slipping in and out of its cup.

Hopefully, if it is a broken spring the VX should spot that pretty quick.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

That may help - offers a couple of suggestions and mentions the spring seat mod in detail. Has yours had that done?

Don't worry if it is, it's a very common but easily rectified problem.

    Good luck.

Nope not had that mod done.

VX might come up trumps and find the problem, but I'm not holding my breath.

Think I might print these forums posts out and show them to VX.

As usual the help on this forum is second to none.

Right then, think I'll focus on the spring in seat issue then.

Re-reading some of the problems with the worn bushes it sounds like there will always be a noise when going over bumps.

The spring in seat problem sounds as though its more intermittant

    Thanks.

Thanks, but cost doesn't worry me.

It should all be covered under warranty. Which is why I really want them to be able to replicate the issue. If they cannot, the VX garage will charge me a fault finding fee of £85+vat for 'wasted' time.

Ridiculous really as I don't have the time or the inclination to book my car in for the day to sort an 'imaginary' problem. Ive got better things to do.
