Default 1.9 CDTI rough idle and uneven power

After having my inlet manifold/swirl valve replaced, the dealer loaded the latest version of the software to the car and it doesn't seem quite right.

There's a definite roughness when idling that I don't remember before and the car seems to slightly surge rhythmatically when held on cruise control.

It's really off putting. I can't tell whether it's the new software, the new swirl valve or something else going wrong.

Anybody got any ideas before I take it back to the dealers?

I have the impression that mine does the same surging - It's really difficult to say for deffinate but it certainly feels like it to me.

I've also wondered if acceleration in the CDTi is usually quite linear. I tend to get extra surges at a couple of points in the Rev range - guess this is something to do with the turbo

Thinking about it - I've noticed surge at different revs too. And not the usual feeling of it picking up as it reaches max torque with the turbo spinning full on. More like a slight hesitation, followed by boost, a little more hesitation and then more boost.

Trouble is, I've been driving a variety of different petrol cars for the past 2-3 weeks, so I can't remember for sure whether or not it was always like that!

mine is doing this surging/hesitating too peeps. I can tell you it's not normal, deffo. My car has always pulled really very hard right through the rev range until recently.

My car is in at the dealership on Thursday for a service and to have this looked at. I am seriously going off these CDTi's big time.

Me too. Which is a shame, because there are only two engines that I want that are good enough to replace mine. The 2.8 Turbo petrol or the 3.0 CDTI!
I can't afford the petrol bills on the 2.8, so it has to be either keeping the car I've got or getting the bigger, but not that more powerful V6 CDTI...

The V6 CDTi is a much more refined drive than our 1.9's dude. Have a spin in one and you'll see what I mean

Yep, it's not normal, as Alex says.

Mine pulls very hard throughout the range.

The only hesitation is turbo lag if you let the rpm drop too much.

I had my swirl valve replaced last year & ever since it pulls like a train.

Yep - it's about time I had a go in one to see what all the fuss is about!
I fancy an auto next time too, so this combination could work very nicely!

Thanks for the advice guys, in the meantime it looks like mine will be going back in again...

Yep, have to agree with Alex as well..'our' 150 is a real dog since VX had it in for the DPF/Turbo/Swirl valve...they uploaded new software to bring the version right up to date ( including making the DPF regenerate more often). and it's not been right since.. terrible idle when cold, poor preformance etc.. but they won't reverse the software upgrade as VX have told them not to as it will affect the DPF.
