Default My own tour of the North West

Last week I reached another Birthday. The missus told me I'd have to wait till today for my pressie which meant she'd booked something...For the past few days I've thought it was either a flash car on hire for the day, a trip to a race circuit, a flying lesson or a scuba trip to blue planet and the sharks.

I was going to go to the NW meet but she wouldn't tell me what time I had to be back and suggested I be home from 12:30. So that knocked the NW meet on the head. By 1:30 I was getting impatient and she told me we were going out at 3pm !!!! I could have made the meet afterall!

So as we left she gave me my ticket for a flying lesson. I've done it before and as a qualified avionics engineer I'm pretty O'fay with aircraft. However I must admit I was bricking it.

I had hoped to do a fly by of the NW meet but 1. it was too late, and 2. the instructor reckoned the weather was better towards Chester. So off we went, Out of Liverpool, over to Chester,Wrexham and few manouveres over Wrexham area before passing Beeston Castle, Oulton Park where a meet had just finished and some drifting was taking place before a controlled crash back at Liverpool. My first real landing and boy was I nervous!

I did take me camera but the visibiliy wasn't great and the low wing blocked some of the sights but here goes:

    Departure:

    Oulton Park:

    Drifting:

Sorry to the NW peeps for missing another meet..I did have an excuse this time..Honest!

Looks like you had a great day ... I've done a couple of these now and they really are good fun ... like you on the last one I landed the plane and it was a little bit worrying!!

I asked how much it would be to go for a pilots licence after my last flight as it was so much fun but I think I'd need to save for a few decades to get there!

The missus asked while I flew....8-10k in one year.....:eak:

I had one real brown trouser moment! On the runway I opened up the engine and had control. The seat wasnt locked and I flew back loosing grip on the column and no longer able to reach the pedals....Two Easyjets did wait quite patiently for me to sort meself out!

Must admit I'd rather have gon to the NW meet!

I remember having a crack in a Tornado F3 a few years back. Took control briefly, it was a day to remember. The acceleration and deceleration was nothing short of violent. Flew in the BBMF Lancaster too, I was sat in the upper turret for landing. Great views onf Lincolnshire.

Looks like you enjoyed it Brocks. Nice one.

If it's any consolation the Lanc flight made me feel ill. Doing flypasts and surprisingly tight turns at 400 (ish) feet is enough to make anyone feel bad.

The Tornado was a breeze, just took the doctors advice (in my pre-flight medical) although removing the ejector seat pin made me a little nervous I have to say. I did feel mentally drained afterwards, I think it was a mixture of adrenaline and the fact that my G suit had been working overtime. One moment I'll never forget is when the pilot (a very friendly Wing Commander from Coningsby 56 Sqn) said over the radio "Heathrow this is Typhoon 3. Permission to go supersonic..." or something like that. I've got pics of the jet I flew in.

Land them? I'm not a pilot, just a lowly aircraft paint sprayer.

Here's that F3. I had to hand draw the entire design on one side, then we all set about tracing it and transferring it to the other side of the fin before we painted it.

Nice paint job...Is that a skill that's easily transferable to the Vec?
