I use Chris Knott on here, but I have to say that I don't believe that any insurance company is great. They work on the fact that its about what can cost them less, and can they get away with it. I had a bump at the beginning of the year and it was dealt with by Highway Insurance which are part of LV. And in the main it was all good, with the repair shop being the best part. Hire car and repair were fantastic. The worst bit was the fact that Highway never called me or emailed me. I had to chase everything. So in the end I just gave them a choice, either tell me whats going on or face the ombudsman. I haven't heard from them since, and neither from the broker Chris Knott.
My wife spent some months working for a major insurance firm. She said the starting point is always we won't pay - what can we find to deny the claim. Whether true or not, it makes you think.
That's what I would expect from any insurance company; after all, claims reduce profits. What differentiates a good insurance company from a bad one is how ruthless they are in attempting to find an excuse.
The one I mentioned was ruthless even though they knew the 3rd party had accepted full liability and they were not going to have to pay out anything. Therefore I can't bare to think how they would behave if I was the cause of an incident and they would actually have to pay out. I'd rather move to a different (and hopefully better) company before I have to find out!
One of the key benefits of using a broker is that you have your own expert between you and the insurance company who is meant to work on your behalf. If things get sticky they can step in and help make sure you get a reasonable outcome. As the OP says, those tactics from the insurer are very strong-arm, and without someone who knows what they're doing offering you good advice and fighting your corner, you'd have to face that alone.
If we can help, please do get in touch.
best,
Nick

I've used Greenlight for about 17 years, had one claim through them, not my fault and they were great. Still insure one car through them with modifications, however last year they wouldn't insure me on another performace car because I hadn't been driving it or a similar powerful rear wheel drive car for a year before. What is that about? they have been insuring me on a powerful front wheel drive car for the last 17 years!
Hi,
I'm really sorry if you've been unhappy with the service we have offered yourself.
Unfortunately we do sometimes need to ask for additional information / documents / validation checks for policies that have been processed on-line. These are to protect ourselves and the insurers we deal with. I'm afraid due to the high level of fraud we experience with on-line policies we do at times need this additional information. Obviously it's difficult to comment on other insurers procedures and practices I'm afraid.
Regards,
Dan.
Just having a look at Greenlight insurance.
Sadly Vectra-C.com is not on the drop down box list of 'where do you hear about us' that you select before proceeding.
And the drop down box for 'title' is amazing. I was going to select 'Marshall of the RAF' or 'Princess' !!!
@ChrisKnottInsurance wouldn't even quote me when I mentioned I was swapping my engine from a 1.8vvt to a 3.2 v6 with all the brakes etc to make it safe.
