    Default Evil insurance companies

As some may have seen from my other thread, my car was recently damaged by a 'stray' neigbour's car whilst parked unattended outside my house. The 3rd party's insurance company accepted full liability but I reported it to the broker which I had used as a matter of due diligence. They in turn handed over to a 'accident management' company, and presumably notified the underwriter, which was a firm called MarkerStudy.

Said underwiter called me a few days later and initially seemed quite reasonable, and agreed they would not record it as a claim, but rather 'for information only' as I was not claiming from them.

    However as the call continued, all sorts of bizarre questions began, including the following;

    - What modifications are there to the car
    - What was the purpose of my last journey before the incident
    - When was it last serviced
    - Have there been any incidents or claims in the last 5 years

This is all information that either they have to hand (I have declared all the modifications, declared previous incidents etc), or is totally irrelevant to the case, even more so as I am not even claiming from them.

Then they got me on a 3-way call with DVLA to check that I did not have any convictions on my license.

In my view, this was all totally uneccesary and would appear they were simply trying to catch me out (e.g. if I had a new conviction or modifcation since I last renewed the policy)

I've only ever once before had to deal with an insurance company (Direct Line) regarding an incident in the past, and the questions were simple, there was none of this nonsense. I certainly won't be renewing my insurance with this company.

The question is, do all insurance companies that specialise in modified cars treat their customers like this? It has left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

The problem with going through a broker is you will often be insured/underwritten by a Practically unknown company who may well be a bit more ruthless in their methods of getting out of paying out. But why they gave you the Spanish Inquisition when you weren't even putting in a claim through them is beyond reason

I hate these types with a passion , I have been with marker study via premium choice and it was cheap but that's for a reason , I'm now with flux direct and again they are awful , I would hate to deal with an accident through them , the worst part for me is the whole information thing , flux direct made me take pictures of the car and send them , in comparison tesco were really good , they didn't ask how many cats and dogs I had and it was good service , its certainly the last time I will use these types of companies even if it costs slightly more , I hope you get it sorted , the accident I had when premium choice / marker study were my insurer was settled this year , the accident happened in 2013 , they just didn't want to fight my corner

Had a similar experience with Swinton, they passed me onto a firm that was called Quindell which was a company that delt with none fault claims, and a solicitors called Silverbeck and Rymer These were bought out by Slater Gordon Solutions Legal, they were terrible, months to get the car fixed, not all repairs done ( tyre damage due to tracking being out wore away tyre until it was illegal) they said wear and tear.
no loan car even though there was one to be delivered, they even phoned me to ask when it was going to be returned.
Gave up trying to do a injury claim as the independent doctor kept cancelling and they appointments moved further and further from where I live.
The questions that they asked and hassle I had I wished I paid for the repairs myself as I was the one made to feel guilty and all this with a video from my dash cam of the offender cutting in from the fast lane without signaling and bouncing off my off side wing/wheel,
His words were that his front wheel was in front of mine so it was his right to filter in!!

I'm with them and had exactly the same as you described above. Didn't bother me too much as it meant I was getting it sorted out and nothing could/would happen till I did anyway, but I ended up sorting it all out through the third parties insurance as my lot were more useless than a condom machine in the Vatican. I had to do all the chasing, calling around, getting quotes, sorting collection delivery etc.

Then they had the cheek to send me a letter telling me that the third parties insurance hadn't paid the costs for my hire car I had, so I asked them "why you telling me?" "Oh just so you know they've not paid us" "I don't care they've not paid you, it's not my problem! Plus since I had to do all the work I hope they don't!"

Hopefully they won't be as crap to you (but that's a bit doubtful from what you've described) I'd go with liaising with the third party insurers, hopefully they're much more on the ball like the lot I dealt with

    Good luck with it

I assume 'flux direct' is part of the adrian flux empire @jamie1991 ?. Can anyone recommend a decent mod-friendly insurance company? I don't mind paying a bit more but most mainstream companies that i tried would not insure a car with the mods that i have.

Yes I believe they are I really wouldn't recommend them to anyone , everyone has different experiences but I have been put off for good , I have heard good things about greenlight and sky insurance both allow mods as far as I know so maybe worth looking into them , I frequent another forum and they seem popular

Thats mad, i would have said 'well i took the policy out and gave out all the information so if you knew what you were on about and were genuinely my insurer then you would have all this information wouldn't you?'

Its a bit like when i arrange for work to be done at my work by giving out lots of info and help so it can be planned and go smoothly only for the contractors to turn up and say 'so what we're doing?' Or when i get stupid sales calls where they tell me they are an approved supplier to the group, i remind them most is dealt with head office then they ask for the contact details. So i say, well you said your company is already a provider for the group so you'll know all of that wont you? Bye lol

Sky Insurance is the broker that I used, MarkerStudy is the underwriter that Sky insurance put me with. The broker has always been easy to deal with, it's this evil underwriter that I am dissatisfied with. I will give Greenlight a try...
